An Eye For Style

The Honest Eye’s Catherine McCavanagh knows a thing or two about looking good.

As a personal shopper and stylist, she’s helped numerous women and men build and simplify their wardrobes so they’re both functional and fashionable. Drawn to the classic New England style, this mother-of-three appreciates an “effortless” aesthetic, though she loves to add pieces that make a statement and set her apart from the crowd. Her motto: “It’s better to be seen than to be noticed.” We recently asked her to break down this season’s hottest trends and share some of her favorite picks, available at local boutiques.

1. Get funky with fringe

While fringe can be tricky to pull off on clothing, it works well on accessories like handbags and shoes. This stone leather bag from Details and Goods can fit everything you need on the inside, all while looking fashion-forward on the outside.

2. Give the cold shoulder

Shoulders are the go-to erogenous zone. If a designer had a chance to show them off this season, they took it. From
off-the-shoulder tops and shoulder cutouts to asymmetrical necklines, no runway was devoid of the trend. This black cold shoulder top from Chel Bella is not only on-trend but also a classic, timeless piece, pairing perfectly with a bold gold-and-turquoise statement pendant necklace, also from Chel Bella.

3. Go boho

Lace, eyelet, embroidery and looser silhouettes are hot. This trend puts out easy and effortless vibes, which is exactly what we want during the warmer months. I love these breezy embroidered shorts from Ports & Company, which may be worn as part of a casual outfit with a tank and a denim jacket, or even as a beach cover up.

4. Take a trip to the Wild West

If you still haven’t bought yourself a pair of leather cowboy boots, it’s time to get some! These two pairs from The Shoe Market are great transition pieces for the change of seasons, showing off both the slide and fringe trends. Extremely versatile, they look good with everything from an ultra-feminine sundress to skinny denims and a flowy top.

Layered necklaces are still going strong.
This Falk Jewelry Designs handmade horn
pendant with gold-plated brass spikes and
black onyx combines two necklaces in one.
It easily elevates the simplest of looks and
adds interest to any outfit.

6. Get tied up

Lace-up details graced countless runways (Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy, to name a few), which comes as little surprise given this season is dedicated to the ‘70s revival. This striped dress from Chel Bella adds a subtle dose of retro style to your wardrobe, without being over-the-top trendy. Paired with gladiator sandals, you’ve got yourself a look that’s effortless and chic.
