Hingham Gets Holiday Ready

By Ethan Ayer

As the temperature plummets and spirits rise in Hingham, preparation begins for the town’s 35th annual Christmas in the Square celebration. Characterized by bustling children indulging on oversized candy canes and sporting Santa hats, the town center comes alive as merchants flex their Christmas spirit. People flock from all over to join in the festivities, which include live performances, special offerings from local shops, including complimentary gift wrapping, hayrides and a visit from Santa Claus. Highlights also include contests for best gingerbread house and best decorated tree on the South Shore.

Christmas in the Square kicks off this Friday, December 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, December 3 from 12 until 6 p.m., Magic 106.7 will stop downtown on its holiday tour to play music and give out prizes. Holly Jolly Hingham continues all month long downtown. Check out Downtown Hingham’s Facebook page for more information and event details.
