Hingham Militia Honors Local History

Photography by Jack Foley

They aren’t heading into battle anytime soon, but the members of the Hingham Militia band together toward a common goal: to preserve and honor the history and heritage of Hingham and to remind people of the sacrifices made by those who preceded them. They dress in authentic Revolutionary War uniforms, complete with turkey feathers in their hats, just the way their Hingham forefathers did.

Formed in 1975 in celebration of the country’s bicentennial celebration, the Hingham Militia marches on today in several area events, including Hingham’s Lincoln Day and Fourth of July parade.
